Here is a list of the terms & definitions used within Greenasium Fitness Studio:

  • Dynamic Warm-up:

    a routine of active movements aimed to prepare the body and mind for exercise.

  • Functional Training:

    fitness training movements for activities performed in daily life.

  • Homework:

    assigned workouts or routines by Greenasium Trainers to be completed when not with a Trainer.

  • Static Stretch:

    stretch muscles while the body is at rest. It is composed of various techniques that gradually lengthen a muscle to an elongated position (to the point of discomfort) and hold that position for 30 seconds to two minutes.

  • Dynamic Stretch:

    a form of stretching beneficial in sports utilizing momentum from form, static-active stretching strength and the momentum from static-active stretching strength, in an effort to propel the muscle into an extended range of motion not exceeding one’s static-passive stretching ability. Anything beyond this range of motion becomes ballistic stretching. It is a type of stretching while moving.

  • Cardio Exercises:

    also called cardio or aerobic exercise, is physical activity which raises the heart rate to around 60 to 85 percent of the heart’s maximum heart rate for an extended period of time, usually twenty minutes or longer. A sudden strenuous activity, such as lifting heavy weights may raise the rate to this range temporarily, but it is not considered cardiovascular exercise unless the elevated heart rate is sustained.

  • Resistance Training:

    a form of strength training in which each effort is performed against a specific opposing force generated by resistance, i.e. resistance to being pushed, squeezed, stretched or bent, used to develop the strength and size of skeletal muscles.

  • SMART Goals:

    a process of setting goals, subscribed by at Greenasium Fitness = Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound.

  • RICE:

    therapy treatment meaning = Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation

  • Pain vs. Burn:

    Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage.  Burn is a hot or warm sensation in a muscle, experienced during vigorous exercise.

  • Nutrition:

    the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.

  • Motivation:

    the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way, or the general desire or willingness of someone to do something.

  • Evaluation:

    the Greenasium Fitness process for obtaining measurable data such as weight, height, maximum repetitions, and age to secure a fitness baseline in order to build a customized workout plan or program.

  • Consultation:

    the complimentary Greenasium Fitness process for discovering ones individual reasons and goals for fitness as well as health history.

  • Training Session:

    the Greenasium Fitness service with a Fitness Trainer for a determined amount of time, scheduled in advance.

  • Drop In Class:

    the Greenasium Fitness service for a group class on a specified day and time, rotated every three months, open to anyone to drop in.

  • Studio Access:

    the Greenasium Fitness service where clients who have purchased at least 8 individual 60-minute training sessions can schedule a time to come into the studio and work out on their own without a Fitness Trainer.

  •  Roadblocks:

    any issue or life situation preventing one from reaching a fitness goal or lifestyle.  Acknowledging these roadblocks helps awareness and prevention in order to overcome and reach goals.
